Hoi An
A Vietnam Gathering – April 2026
We’re putting the call out for a family and friends get-together in Vietnam next year! We’re aiming for the week of 6th to 12th April 2026, right in the heart of the dry season—warm, sunny days perfect for exploring, relaxing, and reconnecting. There’s no formal itinerary, no pressure—just an open invitation to share a beautiful part of the world with some of our favourite people.
Whether you’re based in Australia, Ireland, Canada, the UK, or elsewhere, this is a rare chance to meet up somewhere completely different and truly memorable. Think street food under lantern-lit skies in Hoi An, a chilled drink by the beach in Da Nang, or simply a great meal shared with family you haven’t seen in far too long.
Everyone is welcome—cousins, old mates, partners, the kids. And we’d especially love to see you there, Bill. Vietnam might just be the perfect halfway point for us all to catch up, without the chaos of hosting or planning a traditional event. If you’re tempted, this might be the best excuse you’ll get for a bit of travel and warm weather next April.
No firm bookings yet—just planting the seed. Let us know if you’re interested, and we’ll keep you in the loop as things take shape. The more the merrier!

Accommodation: can recommend the Gem Riverside. We have stayed there a couple of times and it is great. Walking distance to the Old Town but far enough away to be quiet. Hopefully we can organise a group rate.
Another nearby hotel is the Hoi An Odyssey Hotel fantastic cozy boutiquey.
Communications: would recommend getting a sim card at the airport. Last time we got Viettel something like $20 for 2 weeks . The girls at the airport Viettel booth swapped out the old sim activated the new one in both our phones, quick and painless.
Transport: we booked through booking.com and chose the option to be picked up from airport. I think it was free pickup service from the airport. Also just as easy to grab a taxi from the airport.
GRAB App: an uber like app great for taxi’s and motorbikes. Set it up before hand and link to a card with low limit just in case. Grab was really handy could usually get a motorbike or a taxi within minutes good price and no haggling 🙂
Plans– fluid (lots of fluid) …stay tuned
more to come….
The best week to visit Hoi An in April 2026 is likely the second week: April 6–12. Here’s why:
🌤 Weather
- Dry season: April is part of Hoi An’s dry season (Feb–August), with warm, sunny weather and low rainfall.
- Temperature: Daytime highs average around 30–33°C (86–91°F) with cooler mornings and evenings.
- Humidity is rising but still manageable compared to later months.
🎎 Cultural Events
- Hoi An Lantern Festival: Usually held on the full moon, which in April 2026 is on Tuesday, April 7.
- Expect magical lantern-lit evenings, traditional games, and performances along the river.
📉 Crowds & Costs
- Avoids Easter Holidays: Easter Sunday 2026 is April 5 — traveling right after avoids the international holiday rush.
- Before peak summer: Fewer tourists than in June–August, so better hotel rates and less crowded streets.
✅ Recommended travel window: April 6–12, 2026
You’ll enjoy the Lantern Festival, ideal beach weather, and a balance of atmosphere without peak-season crowds.
